Carol Saltzman

Senior Project Manager

Interview conducted by Allison Blacker

What is your role at Remedy Partners?

Senior project manager, working for the software development team, I currently support three teams: DBA, Data & Reporting. My main responsibility is to ensure that business tasks are properly defined, that we understand the requirements, and know the timeline and priorities. Our number one team goal is to provide excellent quality code to complete our work in a timely fashion. As a project manager I have to juggle priorities. Our group gets tasks from every department.  We strive to provide the best service and code to our partners and colleagues that need our work. I am proud to be a part of the team that builds the code used to create the product and services Remedy provides.

How do you define success?

Success is doing what you like and what you love. Set a goal, try to achieve it and if you can’t reach that goal, know that you did the best you could.  You do your best, you’re successful. Success in software development is to deliver good quality code, so the company has ability to grow.

People would be surprised if they knew…

I live in the house I grew up in. That’s common in my town. I purchased the house from my family. My children went to the same school I did.

If you could pick one theme for Remedy Partners what would it be?

Collaboration - especially in New York, we’re all about collaboration. People are always working together to collaborate among teams. You see people sitting on a couch, around a whiteboard, no matter where they are, they’re always collaborating to reach a goal or make  product the best it can be.

What is your proudest moment at Remedy Partners?

There are two moments that pop into my head.

  1. At the end of last year, the software development pushed ourselves to complete the 2015 software development initiatives. In order to make it happen, everyone had to give 110%. We all worked together and it was a defining moment to see that our team could complete the goals.
  2. The reporting team was migrating our report server to the next version. It took a lot of work and collaboration to integrate and implement the upgrade. We were happy to be a part of this huge and critically important task.

What advice do you have for prospective Remedy Partners candidates?

Change is constant in our company. You must be flexible and with flexibility you will help the company to grow. Always think bigger picture, expect things to change. To be successful at Remedy, you have to be adaptable to change.

What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing this?

Summer Camp Counselor (all kidding aside!) I actually started as a elementary school teacher. I then went on for my Masters in Education Technology, I did software training for a few years and as I learned more, I knew project management was the role for me. I worked hard to obtain my PMP Certification (Project Management Professional Certification) and IC Agile Certification. I always have an education goal to aspire to. I think it is important to take your experiences and apply them to tasks in your role.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spend time with family and friends, especially Allen and Michael, my two sons who are both in college. Other than that I enjoy golf, walking on the beach and in the park.  I like to be social, and I also play mahjong!
